Who I am...

As seen on the cover of "Jockey: The Rider's Life in American Thoroughbred Racing"

My name is Cris Forney and I've been working "Professionally" as a photographer for approximately 11 years. My home is in Amelia, a suburb of Cincinnati, where I've lived with my family for the last 21 years.

I've always had a strong interest in photography and technology. Photography changed for me when I purchased a Canon EOS Rebel 2000 in mid 1999, what I considered my first "serious" film camera, man was I green. Shortly after and understanding the cost of film, I purchased my first digital camera. The ability to see how your settings changed the expression of the image almost instantly without costly processing, this was cool and I was hooked! Digital has come a long way and it has changed the way life is suspended in time for generations to come. It gives us the ability to turn on our computer and view some of the greatest sights the world has to offer.

I began my career taking photographs for thoroughbred horse racing. This included newspaper, calendar, publication, as well as, for thoroughbred owners and jocks. I also had 11 of my images published in a book about a jockey's life and their struggles in the racing business, a tough business. My work was also selected for the cover of this book and it can still be purchased today in most chains. I've been published in Cincinnati magazine that featured articles regarding food, drink, fashion, and style as well as, local newspapers. I've met many people, made some good friends, and have some great memories. I enjoy all facets of photography and love producing work that is appreciated by my clients and those who enjoy my photographs. I've moved in several directions within the industry and only wish I could do more, develop more, and continue to grow in the field. There's something about the privilege, the chance, that in 50, 75, or 100 years from now when I'm long gone, that someone will have a picture of their family proudly displayed that I've seen through my lens. Photography transcends time and place, it shows us a world that we've not seen nor would have known existed. Everyone enjoys looking at pictures and remembering those special events in our lives.

Thank you for taking the time to read a small part of who I am and why I take pictures.

Please visit my website, and I hope you enjoy some of the suspended memories that have been captured through my camera lens.

Best wishes,
Cris
